Dear Sending Family!
Thanks for your encouragement, prayers, and financial support as we prepare to leave this Saturday for 10 days in Kenya. We'll have very limited internet but we'll do our best to maintain a blog and read your comments. We may even try to upload some pictures but the internet will be through distant cell towers that provide very slow uploads. One of the missionaries in Karundas (the place we'll be staying) literally has to walk outside in the middle of the night sometimes to get her internet to work.
This past Sunday evening we packed up all that had been donated to us for the orphans and at-risk children we'll be serving. As is typical with the generosity of our friends, there were way more wonderful donations than we could put into our 15 bags (each team member is taking one personal checked bag and one filled with donations). If asked why we have 15 bottles of antacid tablets in our suitcase, we'll just say we get really bad heartburn. :) In order to make better use of space and get our bags up to the allowed 50 pounds, we opened bottles and bottles and bottles of donated ibuprofen and acetaminophen and combined several into one. There's a lot of wasted space in those bottles. We also took the air out of donated soccer balls.
We ended the evening with time in God's Word and prayer. Deb shared that she was going to be having an MRI on Monday as she had been having horrible pain behind her left ear for weeks and nothing would stop the pain. We laid hands on Deb and prayed for her healing. She got the results back today and it's best case scenario. She has acute sinusitis and will be getting a strong dose of antibiotics going before we leave, Yes, her Doc says she can go to Kenya! Please pray that the antibiotics do their thing before we fly on Saturday evening. Flying with sinus issues isn't fun. Please also pray for Bruce as he's leaving Wednesday afternoon to fly first to Zambia before meeting our team in Kenya. He'll actually have one playground under his belt before meeting up with the rest of our team.
Thanks again for making it possible for us to serve children in Kenya!
